Hey I was in Wichita Kansas last weekend and I went to a couple pet stores and they said that RES turtles are illegal to own and sell in Wichita but i didn't ask why so now i am wondering why they are illegal so if anyone knows.....please tell......thanks!

Usually they are illegal to sell under two inches because they carry salmonella (unless it's bought for scientific reasons). Other states have banned their sale completely because they are an invasive creature and due to too many people releasing their turts into the wild, the turts have taken over the environment.

I don't think so. I think that its just illegal to buy them when they are under 4". Try googleing it for more information.

Actually, it is true, some states have completely banned the sale of RES (other species of plants and animals have also been banned).

It may be a local law check this site http://www.api4animals.org/b4a2_exotic_animals_ords.php It has some local laws listed by county. From what I can tell if a RES is considered exotic and you live in the listed counties you can't own one. You can also try calling your local humanne society.

well i think it might be just that county because I went to a different town's pet store like 10 mins away from wichita and they had them for sale
