General Care Discussion :: debris in sulfa bath water...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

today is the second day that i've put my turtles in a sulfa bath, and tonight i came in to take them out after 1.5 hours and found this debris in the respective containers that they were in (as you can see, it is much worse in one turtle's container than the other's). after taking them out of the bath yesterday their water was still totally clean. does anyone have any idea as to what this might be? (btw--the yellow tint to the pictures is merely from the lighting.)

perhaps also relevant to diagnosis, i cleaned their tank completely yesterday and have found a lot of debris like that which is in the pictures in it today (much more than accumulated in multiple days last week). at first i thought it was little pieces of lettuce (because i have some in the tank with them), but now after seeing what was in the water in the little containers they were in for their sulfa bath i'm thinking that it might be something else...

while we're at it, i'll broach this question as well: do you think his shell looks normal (mind you, he's in a little bit of water in this picture)? is the space between the scutes normally this dark & spacious? this is the same turtle for whom the water was quite dirty after the sulfa bath tonight.

I'm not familiar with the background of your turtles... but when they are put into a small container, their levels of stress increase and are more likely to poop.

The shell picture looks perfectly fine!
