My Franklin was basking today and because he is finally gotten to where he will let us get close enough to watch him, I noticed he has about 3 cracks in his shell right behind his head. They are right along the edge about the length of one scute. He is in a tank by himself and we rarely get him out because he doesn't like it, so he has not been dropped, in case you are wondering :) Any suggestions...... thanks.

Can you post a picture?

It could just be a shedding scute that is cracked. A picture would be helpful.

It could either be shedding, are there any kind of rocks or anything in the tank? he may have bumped into them

I would agree with the above posts. Shedding would be my opinion without seeing pix...since I have a small baby too and he just shed for the 1st time and they DO look like cracks, especially around the shell edges! :) Just watch him and if you see the "cracked looking areas" start to flake up...it is shedding. Just let him do his thing! :)
