Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Wed Dec 05, 2007 7:11 pm   HEY! ITS A BOY!!!! (And I have a ? @ bubble discs)..

Hey ya'll!! I just ummm found out my little "rescue" baby Scatter is a BOY!!! YES!! I saw his ummmm "pretty large thingy" lastnite.... Seems to come out when he is nervous....kinda icky...BUT YEAH! I wont have 2 gravid turtles to deal with...

and btw, Tobi girl is gravid AGAIN!! I talked to a RES rescue and breeding group here in town and they told me it was ok she is having so many eggs and that this will be her 7th time being gravid since September! He told me that since she is and inside turtle, her internal clock is probably screwed up and its ok, I just have to make sure she LAYS. Which we are trying....no luck yet...ground is hard and it is cold...but we are trying and trying.

Anyhow....to my question.... this is to anyone who owns a Bubble Disc for their aquarium. I have one...and dummy me has NO idea what to buy with it. I know I need some sort of tubing and an air filter?! of some sort...?! Can someone please let me know what they have and where to get it???? I would very much appreciate it! Tobi will too!! :D

Thanks!!!

There was an episode of ER vets last year and one was of a cooter who had an enormous amount of eggs. They tried to get her to lay them but were unsuccessful. They had to operate, removed eggs of all sizes, removed her ovaries (which were still producing more eggs) but she never recovered.

As for any type of air stone, I think you are right that you need an air pump plus tubing. All of them are super cheap... I think the Tetra Whisper are the most popular ones.

Trust me, I'm super glad she's a pro at laying them!

I think there is a standard size for airline tubing (1/8" ?), plus larger sizes. I'm sure any aquarium store will have 'em... I just recently ordered this from Big Al's.

I'm still recovering :)

The link I sent was for a 40 gallon tank. They have smaller ones, the larger ones I believe are made to have 2 stones/discs/wands. It does sit on the outside.

I think Scatter is a 3-inch RES.
