General Care Discussion :: Male not growing as fast as Female

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hey guys, well this may sound like a stupid question but is there a reason why my female turtle is growing so much faster then my male turtle? I got them at the same time a few months ago and have been feeding them the same since. I know that the females will grow much larger then the males but he is still quite small and has not grown much since I've gotten him. She has grown quite a bit by now and is looking healthy. When I feed them she is always up top eating but he is still very shy about it so I am worried that she might just be eating most of the food. I know he is eating some because otherwise he would be dead. If you guys could give me some advise on what to do I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

You could feed them separate in a container. Thats what I did when I had 2. I still feed mine out of the tank. Its less messy for the tank. Also, I got 2 at the same time 3 years ago. One got about 6 inches and the other is still about 2 1/2.

It sounds like she is getting more of the food than the other. Feed in a separate container as was suggested, especially the female. If the male is shy, he'd probably be more comfortable eating in the tank by himself.
