Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

One of my RESs threw up a while ago. What came out of her was her diet for the past day or two it looked like (turtle pellets, carrots, and lettuce). I have not noticed anthing else that could be wrong with her, she is active and basks regularly.

I did just do a ~30% water change today (+ declorinator), but the tanks temp stayed the same. I did change up her diet a bit for the past week since the vet visit (she was getting a pyramid shell from too much protien so i added in more veggies than usual).

I also did have rocks in my tank until just recently (per petsmart advice  ) and im kinda worried that they might have eaten some and become impacted? They have been passing rocks for the past few weeks since i removed the rocks.

What should i do?

Sometimes turtles throw up when they've eaten too much too fast. Could that be what happened? If she stuffed herself full of veggies when she's not used to them I suppose it could upset her tummy.

Except that your turtle has been passing gravel, I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens again or if she starts showing other symptoms. However, because she's been passing gravel, you have to wonder if she's become impacted. Is she pooping normally?

Well there is 2 RES in my tank and in the past 2 years i have yet to actually see either poop. Ive cleaned poop out of the tank so i know its happening. I havent noticed anything else strange behavior wise.

Also I might need to cut the carrots up a bit more than i was. Typically the turtles seem to bite the carrot slice and rip pieces off with their claws, but judging by the size of the carrot pieces that came back up, she might have been swallowing chunks too large.

Thanks for the response and ill continue to monitor.

Some of us use potato peelers to peel long thin strips of carrot like worms. Those are pretty easy for a turtle to handle.
