Just to recap-- Got a 7.5 inch turtle, 29 gal tank, and a bad filter system from nephew that was going to put the turtle in a lake. She lived like this for years.

Fast forward to living at my house....... Yesterday, Harley moved into her new digs. 125 gallon tank set up like an old Roman Empire...columns, broken travertine, plants and LOTS of room to swim. There is a large basking area and plenty of light to keep her happy. She also has a Fluval FX5 to keep her home clean too!

This really might be the most expensive "free" animal I have ever gotten! LOL
I wasn't sure I was going to like her and everything seemed so overwhelming (sp?) that I thought I might have made a mistake by taking her, but a month later things have changed. I do like her, REALLY enjoy watching her swim, bask and basically just look cute.

This site has helped me so much.....all the advice, knowledge and tips have saved my life and in reality my turtle's life.

Thanks to everyone that answered a question, gave advice or just some moral support! I will post a picture when I figure out how!

Sounds like a sweet setup, i can't wait to see pictures! I'm sure Harley is very thankful!

That's great! I'm sure she's a very happy turtle!

I know what you mean about "free" pets! I rescued Frankie for "free", and spent about $600 in the first month I had her!

Good job on the rescue lol. Yeah know all about free turtle. Pookie was rescued from a bad situation and has cost me over $400 LOL. Would love to see pics of her new home!!

Good for you (and Harley).

Between the 125 and that kickbutt FX-5, you're all done with the major expenses. She should be very happy in that setup for many years!

DEBRAG -- That FX5 should do a great job in keeping the tank clean. It is a great filter. If I have it calculated correctly it should exchange the water at least 6 or 7 times an hour. With the correct lighting and temps your turtle should do very well.

This is Harley's new home! The rocks are super, super adhered to the base, so that they don't come off!

Wow, you're making the other turtles jealous! That's definitely a better setup than before!
