General Care Discussion :: Rustoleum paint

The screens on my tanks are rusting and I don't think it is healthy for the turtles. I was thinking of painting them with that rustoleum paint but I didn't know if that was safe for them either. Anyone know what is safe to treat the screens with that will keep them from rusting?
(if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it, I wasn't sure where to put it)

well, if the paint isn't flaking off into the water, then I think the rustoleum is fine. Just give it ample drying time.

You may just wanna coat them with clear coat in the future to prevent any rust in the first place.

I agree, as long as the paint won't flake into the water, rustoleum or any other outdoor paint should work fine. You might want to look into why you have a rusting problem, though, because if too much water is escaping, you might be damaging the wall or floor or ceiling. A dehumidifier, maybe?

My tank has it's metal frame painted in rustoleum... and it's rusted

I was using an Aquaclear filter and it seems like all the moisture from the waterfall was a bit too much. Can you find a different material for the screen?

Eeeks! The rustoleum won't work?

It is rusting (in my case) because of their bubblers. The little air bubbles pop and then a bit of water comes up onto the screen.

I made mine out of wood and 1/2 screen thats coated with vinyl. But it may not work if you put the basking lamp directly on it. It may burn.

Your screen looks really nice but I am not the handy type and their lamps sit directly ontop I am going to try out the rustoleum (whenever it isn't raining and it warm enough) since they have a primer that is specificly for metal that has already rusted a bit and then I will paint it with one of their black paints. I plan on making them an above the tank basking area but I don't know when I will get around to it since I don't think I have access to the tools I would need and I have no idea what I am doing lol.
