Hi guys, Ummm I was wondering, is it normal for my RES to be making these little noises. It just started, ummm I can't really describe the noise but its coming from my RES, is that normal??

Normally they don't make noise, except to hiss when startled or when the head is retracted into the shell.

Is the noise like a wheezing sound? A clicking sound? Something else?

When does your RES make the sound and how often?

Is he healthy otherwise? Are there any other symptoms (swollen eyes, mucus from the nose or mouth, not eating, excessive basking, for example)?

If it's constant, it sounds like RI ( Respiratory Infection)

Is your turtle on the basking dock with with open-mouth breathing?

ummm sometimes she sits there making that exact same noise as described, not with her mouth open, but once or twice i picked her up and her mouth was open a bit for the time I held her, and now I look at her mouth, there is this white looking thing hanging off her mouth, it looks like its coming from inside the mouth tho.

ummm there is something else also that as been bothering me, i have had her for around Christmas gone, and she as only been eating pallets, i gave her carrot, she eats that but not much, I gave her lettuce, she don't even bother, once in a while I give her tuna and she goes crazy for it.

White-looking thing---as in mucus? If so, it sounds like she needs to be seen by a herp vet.

As for your second post---I'm not sure what your bothered about---are you concerned about your turtle's diet? The fact that she goes crazy for tuna? It's good to vary the diet with different foods.

I'm thinking about both, but right now I wanna know what to do differently so that white mucus thing on her mouth to go away

If it's mucus, your best bet would be to have your turtle seen by someone. Mucus is a sign of a respiratory infection, which needs to be treated with antibiotics.

You can use a q-tip to wipe away the mucus, but that won't rid your turtle of the infection. Antibiobics will.

While you're looking for a vet, increase the warmth---boost the water temp to 82F, basking area temp to 91-92F. Warmth will at least help your turtle fight any infection.

Is it mucus or some other "white thing"? Doesit look like mucus? How old is your turtle? They eat mostly meat when they are young and pellets, they don't like veggies until they are about 1 year old. Then they start wanting more veggies than meat. Turtles opening their mouths when you pick them up is normal. It is stressful on them if they aren't used to it. If I pick up my turtle, she looks like she just saw a ghost! Her eyes open huge, and her mouth opens wide. One time I swear she even yelped!

hey guys, yea so I am sure its RI, it wont stop swimming around the place, it sticks it's head up and open its mouth breathing, and while it was swimming, I saw some white mucus come out of her mouth...I would take her to a vet, but they are closed right now, and I have to go to work in the morning so lets pray nothing bad happens.

Does the noise sound like heavy breathing or clicking? Can you take post a picture of the white stuff?

Keep your turtle warm as suggested and get her to a herp vet ASAP. Good luck.

Talking about the noises, my turtle, or turtles, can't tell which it is, makes some noises too. nothing i'm worried about really just interested about. they seem to do it at night. sounds like a little cat meow sometimes, first time i heard it i literally "lol'd" and tryed to watch one do it but they seem shy when being watched. sometimes they'll aslo just swim and kind of bite the air and the water and push the air out of their mouth under the top of the water making bubbles. just curious if anyone know anything about these characteristics
