General Care Discussion :: Aquarium placement

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

We're getting a 20 gallon aquarium tomorrow and would like to put it in my daughters room. She has two corner windows in her room. One faces south and the other west. We would like to put the aquarium in front of the windows. Is that too much light?

Generally it's not recommended that you put a tank in front of a window. First off, it gives a good opportunity for algae to take over your tank.
Secondly, and most importantly, the sunlight from the window can heat up a tank, especially a small one like yours, very quickly. If the temperature gets out of control, it can seriously injure your turtle.

It would be a much better plan to put the tank on a non window side of the room, if that's possible.

Okay that makes sense. There is a wall on the opposite side of the room that would work better.

Thanks for your quick response!
