When DH brought home Sheldon in March I had no clue how to care for a RES - - sister & I were googling like madwomen and found this site!!
The first 2 weeks I had Sheldon his diet consisted of earthworms (from my yard) mealworms and dark lettuce and carrot shavings. But mostly just the worms - - he LOVES them and wouldn't eat the pellets I bought.
I also had Sheldon's tank in a "high traffic" area - - didn't realize privacy could be an issue!!
So here I am a month later......to get Sheldon to eat his pellets, I gave him mealworms and pellets together, gradually decreasing the mealworms until it was pellets only and he was attacking those as if they were worms.
I moved his tank to a more "private" area and am thrilled that he was halfway basking on the ramp to his floating dock tonight!
I give him veggies, but not sure how much he is eating - - he is a VERY active turtle.
Just a big thank you to all the members here - - I have already learned so much - - and my goal is a gigantic backyard pond habitat for Sheldon
P.S. still have not told DH how much money I have spent on this little tiny turtle~~
