General Care Discussion :: Turd's being weird!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So last night Turd finally ate her "friend fish". That fish was a feeder fish I had put in there about a year ago. She ate just about all of it except for his head, which was hallowed out. Gross! But after he ate it and so far today she's been laying around with her eye's closed. She's being weird.

Any ideas??

How big is Turd compared to the size of the minnow? Maybe she's too full now and her stomach is upset. And what kind of fish was her friend - a minnow or guppy or goldfish?

Turd is about 7 inches (690grams). The fish I got her was just a feeder fish from Petco, an orange one. I've never bothered to ask what kind it was. But I told them it was for a turtle and they said it was ok. But over a year it got about 3 inches big and it was kind of fat too.

She's just laying around on her big plant in her tank!

About a year ago Buddy ate a goldfish that was almost as long as he was at the time, 3 inches or so. He ate the entire thing  I only found scales on the bottom of the tank. He didn't beg for any food for about 3 days. He slept alot too during that time. It was like turtle thanksgiving.

I'm guessing based on your description (orange + feeder fish + 3 inches big) that it was a goldfish. Sounds pretty hefty too. I'm guessing that your turtle's tummy is just overfull and a bit upset. Give her a day or two to recoup, probably feed her only lettuce if she'll even eat that. If she's still not up and moving, then I'd get more worried. Oh, and keep an eye out for her throwing up, it's known to happen when their tummies are full.

Gross! Turtle puke! She NEVER eats lettuce. I've tried all different types and all sorts of fruits too. She won't eat anything like that. But she's not begging. I'll give it a day or two more.
