Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So squirt is only about 2.5-3inches right now but when i got my stimulus payment i went out and bought him a 40gal. breeder tank with a fluval canister filter - heater etc. etc.

Anyways squirt has had no problem adjusting to his new tank - he looks so small in all that water! I put his old floating dock in the tank (generic kind with suction cups etc.) He loves to bask and tends to do it when my back is turned at the computer but when i do catch him i notice that he doesn't use the ramp that goes down into the water anymore.
He likes to swim over to the side and try and pull himself with his front arms and onto the tank (he fails most of the time) then he will move down onto the side of the ramp and manages to pull himself up there - i dont understand why he doesnt use the ramp anymore...

maybe hes trying to work out his front arms to be like "aahnold"
lol -just kidding-

any ideas?

Maybe he just likes doing it that way better. Remember turts have personalties like people :). An may be he is just trying something new.

I'm guessing that he's probably just wanting up in that way (my turtle does the same thing) and eventually his arms will get built up enough that he can get up that way. As long as he's able to bask, just watch him be funny!

He wants to be the turtle version of a pro wrestler.

yertle only basks on hid rock. He doesn't like the ramp or floating.

My RES will get into moods when he picks the hardest way to get on the basking area. And often he won't stay there long, but will return to the water to try getting on the basking area the same way. I have no idea why; he eventually goes back to the usual way to getting on.

Tiny does the same thing- flailing and splashing, but never seems to get up that way- she gives up and climbs up the side, but won't humble herself enough to just walk up the ramp. It's funny to watch.
