General Care Discussion :: Eggs!!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So I brought Rocks to the vet because I thought she may be holding eggs. She's only 6in and the vet said she's pretty small yet, but she may be holding a few. He said not to worry, and to build a nesting spot, attached to the tank. I got home and went to prep the tank and there were eggs on the bottom! She laid about 10, the largest about the size of a cadbury cream egg, the smallest the size of a cadbury mini egg. A few were broken, which would account for the smell that's been lingering in the room for a few days. I guess all this would explain her lack of interest in food, along with her attitude lately. My baby's growing up ~sniff~

ellman605, eggs don't mean babies unless they were fertilized. Otherwise, they are just like chicken eggs, not viable.

I've got 2 females actually. Only one is laying though. I was just surprised at how big they were and how many she was able to hold in that little body of hers.

That's like a few months ago, my in-laws showed me an article from the newspaper that had like a little Dachshund dog had puppies. Like 15 puppies. Out of this tiny little Dachshund ... Good news, they followed up on the story a few months later and all 15 survived! Sometimes it's amazing what animals can do.
