every now and then i catch him in the middle of his basking area standing on his hind legs with his hands on the top screen as if trying to get closer to the uvb light.. why is he doing this? the basking spot is already pretty close to the bulb

maybe he wants to get out. my turtle use to do that but once they realize they cant get out they stop trying. they usually use the basking dock to escape.

He is trying to find a way out. You need to make sure your screen is secured properly so that he doesn't manage to push it up and fall to the floor.
