I would first recommend getting a bigger tank. your turtle should be in a 50 gallon or larger.

Tetra whisper air pumps are nice, they're very quiet and fairly inexpensive. The airstone type is up to you, but it's good to look for ones that are either heavy or have good strong suction cups.

I bought a (oh geez I can't remember the name..) some sory of long cylindrical bubbler, I think it was called a bubble wall? Anyway it came from wal-mart and was about $5 it's about 18-20 inches long, and I love it. It is green and has suction cups you can position at any point on it.

My turt Sisqo loves it. And I don't have to worrk about him moving it all around the tank.

Orlando, the other turtle, has a rectangular blue bubbler with plastic around it. I hate that one. It won't stay down so half of it floats up and only the half that points up will produce bubbles.

As for the filter, you can place it where ever you like it best. Mine, in Sisqo's tank, is on the back to teh left because of this basking area.
Orlando is in a turtle tank (just for now) so he has one on the side of the tank on the right and one on the back, submerged, to teh left.

I get great filtration in both tanks.

Take-One, he says he already has the turtle in a 46 gallon tank. It's not very logical to get another tank thats only 4 gallons bigger. Wait until the turtle grows some more, and then get a 90 gallon or bigger.

I think bubblers are more decoration, and entertainment for some turtles. Since turtles do not take oxygen from the water, they don't really need the water to be well oxygenated.

Bubblers are good to help break the water surface (no protein slicks) and probably do oxygenate the water to small degree (good for bio media). Plus, my turtle spends a lot of time staring at it...
