Has anyone ever got a cut from their RES, I was cleaning my Tank yesterday and after a while I look at my finger on the palm side of it had a slice, I was not bleeding or nothing but its a bit odd. She only manage to slice the harder part of the skin, but yea don't they carry salmonella or something like that? I don"t really keep any anti disease things in the tank, I only clean the tank and add tap water to it.

There isn't anything you can put in the tank to prevent salmonella... if your turtle carries it there isn't really anything you can do. Just clean your cut and put anti-bacterial stuff on it. And if you have an open cut, don't put your hand in the tank without a glove. I got cut once when cleaning my tanks, but I'm not sure if it was from my turtle tank or frog tank since I clean them both right after each other and I didn't notice it until after I was done cleaning them. I didn't get salmonella from it.

I've been bitten and haven't gotten salmonella. You usually get salmonella from eating something with the bacteria on it like chicken or jalapeno peppers.

their was a person who got salmonella from her turtle through a cut on her hand . she wrote a post about it it sounded awful. my boy friend dose body piercings and the best thing to do is use antibacterial soap on a cut or wound when you think it might have the cause of infection. not the fancy colored kind just the plain old orange stuff it works wonders.

One of my painteds gave me a nip yesterday that drew a little blood. I just washed my hands and haven't given it a second thought (until I noticed this post :D). I'm not worried about getting ill. I haven't had a problem yet with getting sick from my turts. I usually wear gloves when cleaning the tanks, but have on occasion cleaned without them and with bigger cuts than the nip I got yesterday. I've never gotten sick. Just wash well with soap.
