General Care Discussion :: Relatively new turtle (shell and shedding)

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

This is my Kazu.

My question is whether the green spots appearing along the edges of the shells are acceptable or whether they should get looked at by a vet. They cannot be scrubbed off with a brush. They also sometimes are shed off.
Additionally, he/she (don"t know the sex) tends to shed all the time. I know they are supposed to shed but everyday, there is new skin in the water.
Also, is the scute pattern ok or is it a sign of mild pyramiding? The previous owner was in the habit of feeding it twice a day as well as keeping it in a very small tank (18 liter). It is approximately 1.5 years old and about 3.5 inches.

Thanks in advance for any help.

how warm is the water? too warm of water can cause shedding like that.

From the picture, it looks like Kazu has been growing a bit too fast. How much and how often are you feeding him.
From his previous owner's care, he's a little stunted growth-wise, but over feeding won't catch him up. He'll either grow to a normal size or be a little under... it's important that he now has a good environment and a balanced diet.
As for the shedding, daniel's right, it can be from high water temps. If you just got him recently, that could be a factor. A lot of times when turtles go from a bad situation to a good one they shed pretty excessively.
If the green spots are just algae, then that's fine. Some turtles are more prone to it than others.

I am currently feeding him every day. I give him about as much food that will fit inside his head. I give him reptomin pellets. should I move to an every other day schedule?

About the algae, the only problem I see is that it does not come off when I scrub it. Has the algae gotten under his scutes?
