General Care Discussion :: Turtle Acting weird

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I just moved back down to school last Wednesday and brought my turtle with me. This is not his first move. For some reason he is acting weird now. He keeps uprooting all my plants, which he has never done before. He is not eating as much but still eating. He also keeps digging in the rocks, which is a first for him too. I am not sure what I should do? Thanks.

He's probably upset by the move. Maybe he was too young before to notice, or maybe he's just feeling more sensitive this time. My Spot lives outside in a pond in the summer and he hates it when I move him back inside when it gets cool. He snaps at anything that comes near him (including me) and generally acts restless - doesn't want to bask, etc. After a few days he settles down. See your your turtle doesn't adjust after a few more days.

digging in rocks and uprooting plants is also a common activity for red ear sliders. when i first got my bobbers as a baby, he never bothered anything in the tank. it wasn't until he hit about 3 or 4 inches that he really started playing with everything and i had to fix his decorations like every other day. lol now i don't put anything in there that has to be buried in the substrate. and like spotsmama said, it could be your turtle is just readjusting after the move. as long as he is normal otherwise i wouldn't worry about it.
