Okay. I'm triying to hatch Sandy's second clutch. Her first shriveled up and I want to try hatching this one. There are five and we are trying something different. I'm not sure if you've ever heard of it but it involves a plastic bag and moss. We'll see how it works. Once i sucessfully hatch one clutch then i'm done with raising her babies. Well. Wish me luck!

(I know, ADOPT!, DESTROY THEM!, OVERPOPULATED! I'm only raising one clutch and then I'm done, Besides i have homes for any potential babies.)

I'd also like some hatchling advise.

hatchlings are very sensitive. i'm pretty sure there's some advice on the main site, also, bumbysmom successfully hatched two babies so you could try pming her for help. All I know is they need a warmer water and you have to watch them very carefully. They can very easily drown or get sick.

How warm is it in your house? It is 78-80 degrees in my house plus the warmth from the turtle tanks so I didn't "incubate" mine. I also misted them every other day. I had mine on papertowel inside of a plastic deli container with a few holes poked in the top. I only had 2 eggs and they both hatched (which I have read is very rare as there is something like a 20% hatch rate) I made a little "donut" out of paper towel and put each egg inside of it so they couldn't roll around. My concern with a plastic bag and moss would be mold. Moss holds a lot of water and being on a plastic bag isn't going to let it drain. I am pretty sure the temperature only needs to be around 68 degrees for them to hatch and depending on the temperature you will know the sex of the babies. Since I hatched mine in 78-82 degrees I hatched them at the mixed temp where you can get boys or girls. Cooler temps produce boys and warmer temps prodcue girls. (If I am remembering all of this right... it has been over a year now LOL).

I wish i could find the link... You open the bag every 2 weeks or so and squeeze out the moss before you insert it. I know about the mold threat... but if it doesnt work there'll be five more waiting for me in a month or two.

the plastic bag thing seems a little risky to me.. i would still think they egg would have to "breathe" be careful not to turn the eggs or you could suffocate the developing hatchlings

Yea the eggs need to breathe thats why they can't be under water or anything so if you are closing the bag thats a bad idea. Also the eggs shouldn't be moved very much. I candeld mine like once a week or so when it started getting towards the end.

I think I'm going to keep the bag open for a while and close it for a while and altrenate.

I wouldn't close it at all, unless you give it air holes. You don't want to suffocate the little guys.

Yea, don't close the bag or the eggs will most likely die. They will either drown from the moisture or die from lack of oxygen. Also, moss holds a lot of water so if its too wet the eggs will drown. Many people have no luck at all hatching eggs and I think in part it is because they over complicate things. Everything I did was extremely simple and I had a 100% hatch rate with healthy babies still a year later.
