General Care Discussion :: sliding into a wall

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

sigh ... while I'm glad to see them out basking so often now, they still flip out every time I enter the room and go warp speed into the water - and more often than not into the side of the tank. Does everyone's turtles do this or are mine just especially jumpy? It wouldn't bother me except they "slide" so fast - it's a lot of momentum to hit a wall with.

My turtles still do that from time to time. They get really relaxed basking and then get startled and make a mad dash, usually into the side of the tank. I think they're still fine, most of the noise is really from the shell hitting the tank.
So, even when they get more comfortable they may still get disoriented from time to time and still hit the walls. I think it's normal(ish).

It's normal. One of my turtles has gotten used to me, but I've had him for 2 years. I still scare him once in a while, but the other one always makes a mad dash for the water if I get too close. :)
Who ever said turtles were slow?

My turtles are getting a little better, but still flip out when they're basking and see sudden movement. They've never run into the walls, though...

Mine is too lazy and just sits there and looks at you like "why are you disturbing me" :p However, when I had one of those scenic pictures in the back of the tank he kept running into it... like he thought there was more back there or something.
