General Care Discussion :: I think my turtle as a fungus .. and :(

Some may recall that I saw a white spot on my turtle, and due to my camera not working well I could not get a good picture. I looked at a lot of the picture and felt like it is an air bubble. But there is another white spot . . So I am pretty sure is is fungus. I saw on some only place someone talking about putting him ins salt but I am not sure. I am just so worried .I also saw on here getting some cream stuff and dry docking him . What do you guys think.

My turtle has white spots all over his shell right now, their just air bubbles in my case, ready for a big shed.. Yours is probably the same, mine started out just one, i was worried, then i found out it was a bubble now their all over, just means hes about to shed his scutes.

It's really hard to tell without pictures. A lot of things can show as white on a turtle shell - mineral deposits, shedding, fungus.

Usually with shedding, you can press gently on a spot and water that was trapped under a loose scute will leak out around the edges. Also, when a turtle is getting ready to shed, spots on his shell will look coppery when he/she is underwater.

With mineral deposits, the white shows up as a coating more or less all over the shell, and it gradually gets thicker and thicker, and you can remove some of the white by gently rubbing it with a q tip that has been soaked in vinegar.

Have you done a search on here on white and shell to see if you can find a photo that looks like your turtle?

I have looks around and it is different from most of the others I have seen. I am guessing because my turtle is brown not green. I want to go to the vet but I can not find on that does turtles. near me.

This by help , when dry it is brownish, but when it is under water it is white , and almost shains .

If the spot is more noticeable in the water and if it looks shiny/silvery, it could very well be air trapped under the scutes, which will happen as they start to lift off before shedding. If you gently press on it, does the spot move a little? You wouldn't really see water seeping out from the sides unless the scutes were further along on their way to shedding.

I will try to see if it moves any,like with rot and stuff people say that it is feels different,but his shell does not feel different or soft where the white thing is ..oh I do not think the spot is getting bigger I just keep seeing more.

I took some more pictures that still did not come out well, but here is one more. But I have out lined the trouble spots. I know I may just be worrying nothing and I hope I am.
