so im getting 2 new baby red ears this upcoming weekend and i was wondering if the sand method worked for them?
0.1 RES (percy)
1.0 leopard gecko (vincent)
0.1 pastel ball python (cleo)
0.1 Amel het for motley corn snake (Anastasia)
0.1 Arg B&W tegu (Jello)

sand should be fine as a substrate. your going to have a lot of big setups with 3 RES. haha good luck with that.

a sand grain is so small it would just pass through. other members on the forum with hatchlings have sand and havent had a problem

I've had sand with my hatchling for about 5 months now with no problems at all! :)

is sand hard to clean? how do you get it out of the tank
I have two female red ear sliders.
Chimpy - 5.5 inches
Chompy- 6.0 inches
Both were born about 7/2007
Got them -- 9/2007

Well when you first get it, you have to have a bucket of some type for about 1/4 of the sand in it and just stick the water hose in the bucket and just let the water overflow out of the bucket until the water comes out clear. When getting the sand out of the tank I scoop it out with a large cup, I'm sure there's an easier way though. Just go to Sand FAQ under the indoor section.
