Hey there, I'm just wondering how big a turtle has to be to start determaning a gender. My babies are still pretty little (4-5 inches?) and I'm wondering if anybody here would be able to tell which is which. Unfortunatly I don't have a picture at this moment (I'm in school D:!) (Yeah I'm such a rebel) But I'll make sure to get one up after play practice. Thanks so much!

Oh and then, is there any part of the turtles body that would be helpful to see in determaning the gender? I can be as helpful as possible I promise.

your turtles should be large enough to tell. when you take pics get a good picture of the claws and underside of the tail and we should be able to let you know.

If they are 4" shell length, then you should be able to tell gender.

Or, a sure fire way of sexing them is to post a picture of their tail (extended, if you can get a pic!) and their front nails.

Alright guys I got myself some hardcore pictures, my turtles may have been a little smaller then I thought they were, but here's what I have anyway.

Sorry, about the picture quality, all I had on me was a laptop webcam and two very webcam-shy turtles. Don't worry, they're back in the tank now, shunning me for not filming their good side... =D Isn't life grand?

From those pics, my guess would be that Kanye is a female.
Yohan looks like s/he has some pretty short nails, but a fairly big tail. If they're right at 4", it may still be a bit soon to tell... Keep an eye on the tell-tale signs in the coming months
