General Care Discussion :: Hatchling RES- should I use a water air pump?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 5:36 pm   Hatchling RES- should I use a water air pump?

I have a hatchling RES (1.5 inches max) in a 10 gallon tank however I couldn't put that much water in (about 4 inches max in there now) because he is still working on his swimming skills/recovering from a bad journey through one illegal seller to the next. Since I don't have that much water in the tank I can't use a cannister filter so I put the air pump in today to at least keep the water moving.

Question: should I keep the bubbler in his tank or is this dangerous and how much water should I have in his tank?

*By bubbler I man a Tetra air pump. Please message me if you can help!

An air pump will help the keep the water from fouling for just a little bit. So it can't hurt, but you need to get the other basics of the tank ready.

my lil dudes love playing in their air bubbles, i dont forsee a problem, plus like everyone said it helps agitate the surface of the water, and adds oxygen.

My bubbler has helped my turtle with his swimming. Ever since we got him he has always swam funny but the bubbler helps.

Bubblers / air stones are always a good idea to keep anyway because they help to keep the water oxygenated (sp?).
