General Care Discussion :: little story about my rescued turt

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Jan 25, 2009 5:01 pm   little story about my rescued turt

Here's how my bigger RES's owner kept her. Small tank, half of it was gravel, the other half was water (about 1 MAYBE 2 inches deep) all she fed her was bloodworms and had her for years, the only light was a fish aquarium light. I now have her and another slightly smaller one in a bigger tank (soon to be even bigger in about a month), big rocks at the bottom, two filters (saving up for a canister or fluval), proper lights, deep water and lots of room to swim around in and a basking dock. I got the smaller one from my aunt who gets them all the time and wonders why they keep dying (she doesn't properly care for them) so I sent her the link to this website and some basic care instructions and the turtle jello recipe so she'll start feeding the better and hopefully get them a better setup, I don't even know how many she has. Anyway, so now I have the little one who is doing great as well. Pretty soon I'll be getting them in their bigger tank, sand in the bottom and possibly an above-tank-basking area.

Thank goodness for this site to help those who have no idea how to care for a turt.

Sounds like you've got a couple of lucky little turtles. Now we want pictures!

As soon as I get batteries for my camera. Is it me or do digital cameras suck the life right out of batteries?

Get a Canon 50D. If you've never liked photography, you'll love it after a week with that thing. Mmmm buddy!

I'm so glad you were kind enough to take care of one of God's creatures. I think there's a special reward for everyone who loves the earth and all the critters (animals and people) that inhabit it. :D

I actually have a really nice digital camera (a photography kind) but it still sucks the life out of the batteries.

Speaking of, I'm making my monthly "turtle jello shopping trip" tomorrow, gonna pick up a bunch of veggies for them and I picked up some cuttle bone and anacharis today to put in there. I put the anacharis in there when I got home and the little one was just eatin' away at it, I was so proud of her (they aren't very healthy eaters on their own, especially the older one). I also got a new basking floater thing, it's the corner one, it's a decent size so it should last a year or two. My next step is to get sand (probably not until I move them into their bigger tank next month)
