Mineral deposit...My male red ear slider has these white spots on top of his shell and his shell looks a little discolored, it wasn't how it looked before.

Hi, may I slot in your issue? If you don't mind.. since you do not have camera, I also have same problem like yours regards to the turtle shell.

And before this my turtle don't have this white thing on her shell.. when she in the water, its kinda visible.. but still I know dat white thing is there.

Hi, I found out my turtle had mineral deposit. I was told to put vinegar on his shell with an old toothbrush, rinse him out and but him back in the tank. Well if the white spots have gone a few days later that means he had shell rot. So far the white spots have gone. I think your turtle have shell rot, unfortanately but please check this page out.

Oh I'm sorry I made a mistake. Ok since I knew my turtle had mineral deposit after I used the vinegar within a few days if the white spots disappear that means he had mineral deposit not shell rot. Hope this helps!

I'll try to use the vinegar tomorrow and see how is it..

Looks to me like she is just shedding some retained scutes azfar. The color difference if from the air underneath them.

your turtle is just shedding retained scutes, it looks white cause the plates are kinda clearish like your fingernails, theres no problem in fact its correcting the problem by itself

meaning that if the retained scutes shed, the shell will look as normal back?

what my concern is, the really white color on the scutes or shell maybe likes in it.. not on it..

So far I didn't do anything yet, I will give her sometimes to shed to see how..

Well, I'm not entirely sure what you just said...

From what I think I understood, yeah, it will look "normal" after the retained scutes shed. The white color is just air under the shell: that is no problem, because they are shedding.

if I understood waht you were saying then you think that its in/under the scute or something similar? from the picture your turtle's shell looks fine. what you are probably looking at is air bubbles trapped underneath the scutes. most turtle shells have them when they are getting ready to shed. i know i started to worry after i saw them on rolo's shell for the first time and i kept trying to scrape it off but i couldnt get at them! there is nothing to worry about, she's just getting ready for a good and much needed shed.

another good clue that its just shedding scutes is that the shell is a brownish gold and that her retained scutes are starting to flake.
