General Care Discussion :: One of my turtles does some weird things at night.

So the other night I got out of bed at like 2 AM to go to the bathroom. When I got back into my room, something in my tank was different. I had one of the red heat bulbs on so me and the turtles can sleep. But anyway, one of the decorations I had down there was moved. It as least 5 times heavier than my turtle. He's only 1.5 inches.

Moving on, for the past few nights, like late at night/early morning, he's been wedging himself between things and it looks like he's scratching or trying to scratch his shell on stuff.

Any thoughts? I'll try to get a video.

I posted something similar to this the other day! Apparently its totally normal, turtles do this to help them shed their shell scutes when they're growing!

My turtle scrathes his shell against his filter - its hilarious to watch. I got him out after a while and scratched his back with an old toothbrush which he loved! But not all turtles like this done to them!! So be careful of your fingers incase he tries to nip you!

Its a normal situation when you saw one of your decorations, plants, stones and others was moved from the place should be. They can push anything if they think dat thing is blocking their way or whatsoever or they just like to do dat.. haha.. My turtle always do dat at night.. they push the fake plant and rocks from their basking area into water~!.. and make the basking area messed~!

My turtle also will scratches their shell at the filter.. when they climb to their basking area.. they will shake shake on the platform to scratch their plastron. so funny~! and cute.. hihi...

Just remember that if your filter has an intake grate thing on it that you SUPERGLUE it on to the rest of the tubing so your turtle can't get an arm or something sucked into it and drown.

Ooooh, haha. That makes a lot of sense. I examined him today and two of his scutes right in the center of his back are raised a little. Like, off his back. And I was wrong, he's actually two inches.

How old do you guys think he is? He was only 1.5 inches maybe a few weeks ago the last time I checked.

Two inches turtle with healthy environment and appropriate diet is roughly about 6 months old.
