General Care Discussion :: Anyone familiar with a Red Belly Turtle?

I'm thinking of helping our local reptile rescue out and adopting one of their Red Belly Turtles to put with our recently rescued 5" Painted Female.

IMO they look just like a painted turtle. So are their care needs the same as say a slider or painted?

As great it is to help out by adopting a turtle instead of buying one, I highly advise that you stick with one turtle.

I know it's is over emphasized, and it's not my place to tell you what you should do, but I've had up to 4 turtles at once (not even big ones, all hatchlings) and it really piled up.

I don't know if you've considered what having two turtles is like, but it is double everything.

double filtration, double tank size, double poop and waste, double feedings, double everything.

I'm trying not to sound hypocritical, because even I have two turtles, but that is only because I am responsible for both of them. I wish I only had one, but the fact is I'm probably the best out there for them than a rescue center. btw, the other two turtles we given back to their owner after I helped them with their illnesses


if you're really up to it, and have the means to give the new turtle a nice home like you probably have with your painted turtle, then more power to you. but IMO, you'll really appreciate your turtle more if you have one.

AS for how they are cared for, I'm pretty sure they are the same. haha

I've already got 2 RES and a Painted

I'm just hoping to find out if they're easy going like painters.
