I had a thread asking about kroten's gender few months ago and everyone agreed that kroten is a female....btw kroten is the pastel one...she is trying to get on Kame after a mating dance. At first I thought it was a teritory dance but then kroten did this climbing thing.

So...can this mean that kroten is a boy after all?? [/img]

It's likely that she is either trying to establish dominance, she's trying to get a better vantage point to look around, or she's being a goof! Far as I can understand, you should be able to see some of the male's junk when mating is going on if you got the right angle, so you can always look for a crazy dark purple color happening when she does this. But as long as she's over 4", those nails imply female.

Maybe she's just experimenting.

They do like to climb over and on things, females as well as males.

Thx guys :)

Azfar>> okay I'll try taking her tail's picture and upload it here soon.

About the nail...she was born without any nail...it was a good thing she finally has nails. I bought her when she was 2 inches and hasn't developed any nails yet.

Imderange>> hahaha my poor baby.

oh ya... This action isn't vise virsa...which mean Kame never climb onto kroten's back.

How big is Kroten again? It looks like she is bigger than my Pickle, and her tail looks smaller than Pickles. Her nails definitely are shorter than Pickle's. I'm not an expert on sexing turtles, since I still can't decide if Pickle is actually a boy or girl (I'm leaning toward boy again) but comparing her to Pickle I would have to guess Kroten is a female. (plus the position of her cloaca on her tail looks JUST like the female pic http://redearslider.com/determining_sex.html )

Are they the same age?

My understanding is that females grow larger than males.

But turtles also like to climb on each other for the heck of it.

My female, Typhoon, hides under the male, Hurricane, all the time. It's like, "OMG so scary, Hurricane lemme get under your belly!" And then Hurricane is like, "Hey, check it out I got taller!"

Humor me.

But anyways, Hurricane also has larger nails. They also have typically behavior that you would see among males and females.
