General Care Discussion :: tank routes, anyone see this before?

Has anyone ever had turtles do this, where they will walk/swim a certain route in their tanks? What does that mean? I've never seen it before.

Each one has their own route... Still, both of them seem to avoid the deeper part of the water, and head right for the shallow area. Does that mean there is something about that area they don't like, or is this a natural behavior?

well, I suppose this would be similar to what people do when people get accustomed to a place they live, they have certain paterns that they favor because that's what they like and are comfortable with. My turtle has a definate pattern that he sometimes will swim in. He even has a favorite spot on the corner where the heater is.

as for the avoiding the deeper part of the water, that could mean that they feel more comfortable in shallower water, or feel like that's their favorite place, especially if that side of the tank is warmer.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is I think that sounds pretty normal to me. Each slider has it's own personality, and weird quirky habits.

It's very hard to search the internet for turtle behavior beyond mating/reproduction. Ever notice that? This forum has great info, but you have to keep asking questions to get it, and sometimes I want to be able to just look something up really quick.

I was reading recently about homing behavior, to see if maybe that's what they are doing, but the sources I found again only talked about homing behaviors in gravid females. I'd love to know if what they do in the tank, is at all similar to what they do in the wild. That would be awesome if it is.
