General Care Discussion :: Is it bad if your turt eats a wasp?

Today when I came home I noticed a wasp flying around inside of my turtle's ATBA. I have no clue how it got in there, but I knew I wanted to get it out. Before I could even begin trying to get it out, my turtle grabbed it and ate it in the water. So this was about 10 minutes ago. He's doing ok, swimming around like he normally does. Is this a bad thing? Should I be worried? I was kinda shocked when I saw it happen. Thanks in advance for any advice!

i'd think that as long as he wasn't stung he'll be cool. no expert here, just what i think.

thanks for your response! yea he wasn't stung, and he's still acting normally and he ate that wasp about an hour ago. i just wanted to make sure there are no immediate concerns.

There are types of insects that turtles naturally eat. Just watch your dude closely, if you could somehow get the mouth open to check for any sores/swollen spots that'd be great.

The only worry is that wasps and other bee-like creatures can still sting after they die. I would be slightly concerned for your turtle's internal parts. Again, watch behavior, and if it changes dramatically, seek out a vet.

They probably eat them in the wild,but check closly for swollen necks though...

I don't think he'll have a problem, since in the wild, turtles eat a variety of other small animals! Just check for odd behavior later on!
