First, when is a RES considered an adult?

Also, I can't seem to find automated water pumps or submersible heaters anywhere. Does someone know where I can find these items?

Oops, and one more question: how long can a RES safely remain out of water? I like to give mine breaks from her tank and let her dry off sometimes.

I got my submersible heater at Petco, or any other Pet Store that sells fish/reptile products.

I guess they could be considered adults when they reach sexual maturity (about 6-7" in length and about 4-5 years of age in average) but they still grow after that...
Also what is an "automated water pump"?Do you mean a filter?

Usually a RES can be considered at least a "sub-adult" when they're about 1 year old, or about 4". This is when you should start feeding less often.

You should be able to find many kinds of filters and heaters at a pet store. Even places like wal-mart carries them. For turtles, we recommend an external, canister filter, since they can hold more media.

A RES should have a basking area where it can completely dry off, top and bottom. He should be able to access this area whenever he chooses. You will need a UVB light and incandescent light for heat. You can find UVB lights at most petstores. It's recommended that you get a 5.0 (5%) UVB, and 26 watt.
