My one inch baby red eared turtle has been always very lazy and doesn't like move around much. I kept the water level at around 2 inches deep so it was always able to just sleep in the water and poke his head up because it could reach the air without swimming. Today I increased the water level to 5 inches and it seems like he can't swim at all. When he goes up for air he leans against the glass wall and paddles really quickly vertically as if he's treading water. (Literally vertical) He seems a little terrified. Is this normal? I left him there for about an hour. But it seems to be struggling still but it looks like he's getting better. Should i lower the water level before going to bed tonight?

Lower it to 3 inches.

Then tomorrow, go up another inch. Continue to raise it 1" everyday, until your turtle can swim easily.
