i suspect she is pyramiding (i dont quite know what pyramiding looks like)

Are you sure she's not shedding?

Could you post a picture of your turtle's shell?

Please don't attempt to pull off anything that is "chipping" off of your turtle's shell. If your turtle is in fact shedding, which is completely normal, pulling off scutes when they are not ready can cause serious damage to the shell, or in some cases I've heard, expose internal organs.
