General Care Discussion :: 24 hour heat.

So i bought two heat lamps and a different bulb for each one.

A normal one for day, A red one for night.

Someone keeps turning off the red one so i'm wondering do i need the basking heat for night?

i'm using the red one when or if any my turtles got sick
actually they don't need basking heat for night because most of the turtles sleep in the water..

what does the red have to do with being sick?

There's really no reason for them to bask at night, so the red light isn't really necessary. I assume you turn the UVB bulb off at night, and one of the main reasons we want them to bask is to get some UVB.

I used to use an infrared light at night with hatchlings during the winter when the room they were in was particularly cool. It was more to keep the ambient air temp up than anything.

What's the water temp? Is there AC in the room they're in? If so, how cool does it get at night? If the temp is around 75F, they don't really need it. If there's AC in the room, keep them away from drafts or cool breezes.
