HI,
I have a big problem with mosquitoes so I'll have to use "Raid" mosquito protection which contains Transfluthrin.
Is it safe for my RES to be in the same room where this thing is turned on?

I think if it's unsafe for humans, it's unsafe for animals as well.

Try planting some plants that mosquitoes dislike, such as lavender, zodia, and
rosemary. Those plants give out some smell. Depends on the strength of the
mosquitoes as well though.

Nic-o I would suggest that you not use it, however, how safe is it for you? I use a mosquito magnet set up for my mosquitos and it works well. It only kills the female mosquito which is the only one that bites. Good Luck!!

It is supposedly safe for humans (so was DDT ) . I found that it works by disrupting the insects nervous system, but I cant find any information about it's affect on aquatic animals...

Mosquito magnet looks great but I need a solution for indoors since I live in an apartment building.
I might try with the plants if I don't find more efficient solution.

Niko - You are correct about not using it inside. My philosophy is to get them outside before they get inside. When set up correctly they will flock to it. m.

Sounds like lemon grass and cat nip are two good plants to plant to keep mosquitos down.

Btw, I've never heard of anyone using any sort of insect sprays indoors, those things pretty explicitly say not to use indoors because they really are toxic to humans. If mosquitos are biting you, I'd recommend using a personal spray or citronella candle, and mosquitos won't hurt your turtle. However, if your turtle's water is "standing", it will become a breeding ground, so you may want to make sure your filter is in full gear.

Grem -- I have not thought about mosquito larva in a tank but that is another good reason to have a high flow water filter. Mine have a nice swirl in the water. m.
