My turtles are gay.

I put my two male turtles in a 70-80 gallon tank. And the older male is being very friendly. maybe a little to friendly. But my other turtle isn't doing anything about. There isn't any aggression or anything.

I am not too sure your turtles are gay. That is a homosapian trait. If I were you I would be glad that they are not fighting; being friendly and curious is a good thing. I hope they are not sizing each other up for a confrontation. Good Luck!

Thanks I just didn't know if they did this for dominance reasons or if they were just playing. I'll get pics of the new tank when it's finished.

tan-93 -- You did not mention dominance! When I said that they may be sizing each other up, dominance is a possibility. Hopefully they are just curious about each other and that is all. I would certainly keep an eye on them. m.

lol that would be weird. mine got curious and when they get face to face they put their noses on each other. like a kiss lol. their both different sexes so i hope nothing goes on...hopefully

I don't know if turtles can be gay, but honestly, even if they are, it's really not that big of a deal.

Actually I think other “higher vertebrates” can have homosexual tendencies, at least according to my mammology professor…

There's actually quite a few other animals that portray homosexual traits. I don't think turtles are one of them though.

What exactly are your turtles doing?

Look at it this way. If one turtle is very friendly, and the other isn't bothered by it at all, and there is no aggression (great for two male turtles living together), then it's really not at all harmful to them, or in any way negative for them. Maybe one turtle is gay, and the other isn't.

Compared to humans, animals in general have it much easier when it comes to relationships. There's all that bull about "what if I marry a gay guy?" and "gays can't get married in certain states", and various other things that surround our society.

Well for one thing it was just a little joke i didn't mean to offend anyone. There is no aggression towards eachother. Th older turtles is mounting the younger turtle and put his tail underneath the other turtle. The older one is also using his front nails and holding onto my younger turtle. But all in all I think that they just like having another friend in the tank.

Are you sure both of your turtles are males? Is this happening in the water or on land? If it's on land, it's usually a competition for the best basking spot. In water though, sounds like he's trying to mate.

How old are they and what size are they?
