General Care Discussion :: New Turtle Owner & Need Some Help

Hi there everyone. I have just had two red slider turtles given to me and have to get them into a bigger tank as their previous owner didnt have them in a big enough one. I was gong to get a 90 gallon tank for them but I have decided to change my 90 gallon fishtank into a turtle tank because having 2 90 gallons filled with water is just too much. But Before I sell all of my fish I am wondering if there are any kind of fish that actually can share a tank with turtles. I know that smaller fish would be eaten by them but I have a huge 10-12 inch pleco and some very large severum that I am going to have a hard time getting rid of so I am wondering if I could possibly at least keep those 3 fish because they are large. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone

Curb-bw Fact of life; turtles like fish. They like litte ones and big ones. For the big ones, they just nibble at the fins untile it slows them up and then eats them. It may take a while but, turtles like to eat fish.

I agree. There's a very good chance your fish will eventually become food. Even if you're OK with that, there is a chance your turtles could be harmed by the sharp fins of the fish when they try to swallow them.
There's also the filtration side of it too... Big fish also have big poops, and in addition to the two RES there would be a huge bioload on that tank.

lol bulldog, i can relate to that. after feeding them fish the water got more brown and the filter got more brown also. and the foam in my XP3 would be thick and hard to squeeze out the gunk. after not putting fish in there, the water cleared up and turned bright and clear like it use to be
