General Care Discussion :: HI IM NEW AND NEED SOME HELP!!!!!

HI,
I HAVE HAD MY BABY TURTLES FOR NEARLY 3 WEEKS AND THEY SEEM PERFECTLY HAPPY SWIMMING AROUND CLIMBING ON THE FILTER ETC
BUT I STILL A LITTLE WORRIED.

I HAVE A YELLOW BELLIED SLIDER WHO IS NAMED ROCKY AND A MAP TURTLE ( I THINK IT A MAP TURTLE) WHO IS CALLD APOLLO THEY BOTH ARE BABIES AND ARE ABOUT 2-2.5 INCHES IN LENGTH.

1ST QUESTION IS - HOW MUCH WATER DO I PUT IN MY TANK WHICH IS GUD FOR MY TURTLES TO BE HAPPY AND SWIM AROUND IN ALL DAY BECAUSE AT THE MOMENT I HAVE AROUND 3 INCHES OF WATER?? ( AND CAN THY REALLY DROWN!!!!)

2ND QUESTION - I HVE HAD THM FOR 3 WEEKS AND MY YBS IS FRIENDLY COMES RUNNIN TO THE TANK WINDOW SWIMMING CRAZILY AT THE SCREEN OF THE TANK AS IT SEE'S THE PLASTIC BOX OUTSIDE THE TANK THT I FEED THM IN SEPERATLY, BUT MY MAP TURTLE SOON AS IT FEELS MY VIBRATIONS FRANTICALLY RUNS THE OPPOSITE WAY TRYING TO HIDE UNDER THE FILTER LOL

IM REALLY FOND OF THM AND SO IS MY YOUNGA BROTHER HE IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNED WITH APOLLO RUNNIN AWAY HE THINK HE DNT LIKE HIM LOL.

IM PLACIN PICS WITH THESE QUESTIONS PLZ COMMENT ON MY SET UP I CUD DO WITH THE HELP ( PLUS I NOT SURE IF MY MAP TURTLE IS A MAP TURTLE LOL )

Okay, first off - please don't type in all CAPS. It is the computer equvilant to screaming. It also makes it much harder to read your post.

As for the water depth, they need much more than 3 inches. How big is your tank? Yes, turtles can drown but usually it is from them getting stuck in or under something in the tank. You need to make sure there is nothing that they can swim into and can't get out of, or things that may fall over and trap them underwater. I would slowly add water, only a few inches at a time so the turtles get used to having more space, rather than just filling the whole tank up and throwing them in.

Do your turtles have a basking platform or lights?

Some turtles just don't like people, but usually after awhile they will get used to you and your brother. Just give them time. They aren't the kind of animal that "instantly bonds" with its owner.

My tank is around 15- 16 gallons or 70 litres

And how much water do u think i need to place in the tank for thm to ge

Yes i do have lights and basking area i have pics at the end of this reply plz comment on thm

Also do u think gravel is a good thing to place at the bottom of the tank after i filled the tank up??

Also i neva realised but the water inside the tank feels cold to me but my water heater is set at 25 degrees celcius which is about 77 degrees farenheit and my thermometer always reads 25-26 degrees celsius???

The gravel should be taken out asap, the pieces might not be big enough for them too eat yet, but you never know. That basking platform does float so I suggest atleast filling the tank 1/2 way up too start. You will need too upgrade too a bigger tank very soon, the rule is 10 gallons of water per inch of shell.

and wen i take the gravel out, wat else wud i put in the tank besides the turtle dock, heater, and filter anytips or pics??

Turts will eat and shred any live plants you in. Most people use plastic for decor and resting spots. If you're set on putting stuff on the bottom, there is a sand FAQ here with a pile of info and pics.

i think i will be gettin some sand tomorw coz it looks much better and easier to clean like i read

i just wanted to ask my tank is 60cm x 30cm x 30cm how much sand wud u recommend i put in at the bottom of the tank????
