They're on one of the other turtle forums (happyturtlespub.org) I belong to, and can really come in handy in the unfortunate incidence of finding a turtle unresponsive or not breathing, or even turtles that have drowned. I had to perform CPR on a previous turtle and it brought her back from a very unresponsive state until we got her to the after hours vet.
If you're interested, here are the instructions:
An aquatic turtle CAN drown! Here's how to perform CPR on a turtle... (posted in LARGE letters in case you have to see it from a distance while performing CPR).
*Grasp the front legs and pump them in and out at a rate of about 60-70 cycles per minute.
**Keep the turtle carapace up with the head down if you suspect drowning. That will allow any fluid buildup in the lungs to drain out.
***Just stay calm and don't pump to fast or pull the legs too hard.
***Take the turtle to a reptile vet ASAP since an incidence of near-drowning can cause a respirtory infection.
This has been done successfully!
I hope you never have to use this information, but if you find yourself working with rescues, you will need it at some point. It's better to be prepared.
