I got my turtle about 2 months ago as a baby. The guy told me he was a rio grande cooter but i really am not sure. Could someone please help me out. Here are a few pictures:

Also his shell has turned a bit darker since i got him. Is that normal for growing turtles?

Looks like my rio grande RES. pictures are really out of focus so its hard to tell what I'm seeing but I'd say that's what it is.

The pics are pretty fuzzy for a positive ID.
It's not a cooter, but it could be a rio grande slider (a close cousin to the RES). Rio grandes usually have a more patterned/brighter shell than plain ol' RES.

On the darkening shell, yes, that's normal. RES shells go from green to brown/black as they age. I think Rio grandes might retain some of the greenness, or have a lighter colour brown shell as they age.

That second to last picture shows some blue on the shell, is that just the picture or does the turtle actually have that color blue on it?
