General Care Discussion :: When does your turtle bask?

Depending on when I feed her, usually in the morning, my turtle likes to bask after 6PM. The lights are only on until 8:30PM, and she takes full advantage of the time.

What have you noticed about your slider's basking activity?

I went with afternoon. Donnie's only been here for about a week but he seems to bask during the afternoon/evening, but for now only when everything in the room is fairly still. I get to watch him from my couch which is maybe 15-20 feet away and if there are 3 of us in here watching tv and talking and stuff he's brave enough to get out and dry off until someone walks anywhere in the direction of his tank. He's actually out as we speak.

They bask once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once in the evening. This is partly due to them getting startled sometimes. I usually see them bask at particular times, too, so, I should look at my clock next time, and see if there is a pattern to when they bask.

They also sleep right next to each other, hanging onto their basking dock, in the same spots, every single night.

Frankie tends to bask in the afternoon. I used to have to coax her down from the basking area when it was dinner time, but now she's ready and waiting for dinner
Ralph usually basking in the morning/early afternoon. Lights come on at about 10:30, and he'll often be up there by 11:00, but he's usually down by 3:00.

Yashm basks in the morning while Zeytoon prefers the afternoon.

Sometime they bask at noon together which mostly depends on Zeytoon to get along with Yashm and do not scare her (Yashm).

I didn't pick an option on the poll, but if I have the day off, I see Timo basking during the late morning/early afternoon for a while.

I suspect when we're not home he likes to nap on the dock, because he's done it once now on my days off.

Then we come home from work and he doesn't really bask at all while we're in the lounge & kitchen, but then after dinner when all is quiet he'll pop up again at around 7-9PM as well.

They bask whenever the light is on, if they are too many people going past them they won't.

Sometimes they'll sleep on the dock, and in the mornings they will bask.

I think my turtles will bask during afternoon.. they never stay long on the basking area.. So I never check how long they spend for basking..

Sometimes they 'play' with me, whenever I saw them want to bask, they act.. "Ok, we're goin to bask".. and climbed up to the basking area and checking the parameters make sure it clear then jump off into water! .. huh.. they will do dat for 2 3 rounds..

Mine bask whenever the mood strikes them. I've seen them all basking at different times. My biggest basker seems to like afternoon sun the most though. She'll bask for hours and doesn't care if we're working right around her.

Mine seems to also have a spot that he prefers to sleep in. Problem being is he is still small enough to get between the intake tube for my filter and the glass of the tank, soon he wont be so he'll have to find anew spot

Gimli basks while I'm at work (Mon- Fri). He occasionally basks over the weekends and I notice he climbs out about an hour after his lights turn on (around 7:30-8:00) and gets down around noon or a little later.

My mom says he's on it all day while I'm at work. He's rarely still there when I get home. I actually didn't believe he used it at all!! haha

It depends...but mostly afternoon. Kame usually falls a sleep while basking while Kroten stays awake throughout the day

Mine usually bask between the times of 1:00 pm and 4:00pm

RES about 3/4 of the time from 08:00 to 20:00 when the lights are on. Mississippi Map basks even more.

Only tend to stop basking when they think there is a chance of food.

Occasionally if the RES falls asleep, will continue basking/ sleeping even though the lights are out.

I would need a "As often as possible" button to be able to vote

Mine doesn't bask now since I changed his setup recently and he's not used to it yet. But before the change, he used to bask from around 7-10 pm. He's really shy and used to jump in the water when he would see me moving around the room.
