Should i remove the steam that runs thru the middle of the greens? or is the stem fine for the turtle to eat

The stem is fine for them to eat (though they may choose not to eat it :P).

Mine doesn't eat the stem. He's rather picky :)

You could try to give them the steams but my guy refuses to eat a leaf it has a steam on it. Apparently he is too good for the steam. But you might have better luck.

The dandelions that grow wild can be quite different from those purchased in a store. The wild ones are often spiky and have a large stem through the leaves. My turts usually just eat the green part and leave the stem with bite marks up and down it. If you can get the ones that aren't jagged looking, there is very little stem/vein going up the leaf. These are eaten completely, especially by my RES.

I try to take out as much of the stem in plants that have large ones---red leaf lettuce, romaine, etc.
