General Care Discussion :: How many RES should you have in a 40 gallon tank?

We have a 4+ yr old female RES and her tank is 40 gallons.. We want to maybe section off a small area for a second RES. Its a much younger RES. I am thinking it might be a better idea to get a seperate tank completely.. Does anyone have multiple RES in the same tank?

If I could, I'd only keep one RES in a tank. Your female RES may have outgrown
the 40 gallon tank already. It's not recommended to get another RES in that same
tank. You're right, it's a better idea to get a separate tank. Get a bigger tank and
use the 40 gallon for the smaller RES.

40 gallons is too small for only one RES. You need at least 10 gallons for every inch of their shell. You never want to put smaller RES with larger ones even if there is a divider. They can be very territorial and can injure smaller turtles. I have two five inch RES of the same size that have been in the same tank since they were half in inch long in a 100 gallon pond.
