I was just wondering .. because if I get up in the middle of he night they are always up .

I'm sure they get as much sleep as they need. Some might catch naps during the day.
Ralph is usually up until I go to bed, and is often awake before me. Frankie on the other hand is usually napping before her light even goes out at night, and gets up when I do.

They probably hear your movement when you get up, so they wake up hoping for a midnight snack

It is just so rare for me to see them sleeping on time I wake one of them up becuase I was scared when he was not moving .

i have had my RES for about 6 months now..when i first got them i bought 2 "black convict" fish aka chiliads they never slept with them in the tank recently i took the fish out now they sleep 3 or 4 times a day sometimes i feel i have to push them to make sure they are still alive but they are alive and kicking one of my turtles puts his entire head inside his body and the other one just sleeps on a plan that is 3/4 in the water that he can rest on it so dont worry they will sleep

i go to sleep around 12 and wake up around 7 so idk if they sleep between that time but i always see them sleep here and there

My RES Blastoise tends to sleep wheever I turn out his light. Sometimes he does a little scritching and scratching around, but he's never waken me up during the middle of the night. Only when the light starts pouring in from my window do I hear scritching and know he's awake.

One of my turtles sleeps all through the night, and the other sleeps on and off during the night. I think it's a calmness thing with them... Typhoon is very relaxed, and Hurricane is ADD, so when Hurricane doesn't sleep, I'm never surprised.

I've never seen either of my turtles nap during the day in the water, only on the basking dock.

Mine generally sleeps through the night, though if I wake up and turn a light on, she usually stirs and will begin her begging dance.

I know I'm resurrecting an OLD topic. Does my TV on at night disrupt my turtle's sleep? I ask because I used to put a blanket over the tank to keep her dark. I'm a night owl. I just got a timer for the lights. So I figure it's not smart to leave the blanket under my Mercury vapor death star. Does turning off her tank light make it okay for her to sleep well?

Hi Stefina, welcome to the site.

To better know whether your turtle needs medication or not, it would be helpful to know:

1. How long have you had your turtle and how big is he? If you have had him for a while (at least 6 months) has he always done this or is this behavior new?

2. Does he sleep all the time, or does he keep waking up and falling asleep again?

3. What is the water temperature and the basking area temperature? (You need to check these with a thermometer.)

4. What kind of set-up is your turtle in (tank size, amount of water, whether or not he has a basking area, water heater and filter, what kind of lighting he has, etc.)?

No, my RES, sleep on, just when I knocked on the glass, then the RES was awake, but then sleep again.
I do not know the temperature, perhaps 24-26 degrees. RES is fed dinner every day wearing a straw. The food is fish-shaped pellets such as sand, branded HueiMei (purchased in Hong Kong). So it will sleep all day unless you wake him up? Does he do anything when you wake him up or just go right back to sleep. Also, you should try some lettuce not just pellets everyday. The main site will tell you everything you need to know. Also I thought it would be expensive for a vet. Sometimes you can call around and get a decent price for a checkup. Good luck.
