Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I got Franklyn, my first turtle for christmas, then got Rio a couple of weeks later. At first they were both active and ate the food i gave them but Franklyn hasn't grown at all while Rio who was smaller then Franklyn is now quite a bit bigger. As well, over the past week Franklyn hasn't been eating much and hasn't eaten at all in the past 2 days and he spends most of his time on the dock under the lights. When he does go in the water he doesn`t swim much but mostly floats around or sits on the bottom of the tank. I don't have a turtle vet that I can take him to and I'm not sure whats wrong with him. Does any one have any ideas?

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank and it is filled with about 15 gallons of water. There is a filter, a heat lamp and a UVB lamp. I have a pre-set heater which keeps the water at about 74 F, although it's suppose to be set at 76.

Franklyn is the smaller one. Its hard to see but there is a white spot on franklyns shell. It looks like the shell is starting to lift there and its been like that for a while. I`m not sure what it is.

Franklin is getting bullied by the Rio. Try separating them for a bit and see how Franklin is doing.
1 Mississippi Map Turtle 3.25'' (Landslide)
1 Ouachita Map Turtle 4.0'' (Hurricane)
The rest of the turtles have been adopted to good homes. :)

How is the nitrogen cycle doing in their tank; the levels? Have you tested ammonia and nitrites? 74 is kind of chilly. Try 78.
Take care,
