General Care Discussion :: Sad Day for Bella Turtle

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ok so I woke up this morning and the turtle I have had for 3 months which was one of the original 2 i bought from a vendor was sick. One of those vendors in malls that sell maltreated baby turtles. I didnt know it at the time but I raised her. She grew and was very energetic until this morning when I found her just lying there weak with all her body hanging out of her shell. I immediately took her to vet and found out she had parasites and respiratory failure which is very common in these vendor sold turtles. I am heart broken she was like a part of my family I would wake up and see Bella and Renegade everyday. So they had to Euthanasia her. I will miss her RIP BELLA. Buy from good reliable sources is what I learned. Otherwise it will cause heartache.

Sorry to hear that. I would suck if that happened to my turtles as I myself got them from side of the road vendor. Got 3 of them and they are full of energy too so I hope mine dont just get sick out of no where.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's an unfortunate risk that we take by getting them from a street vendor/mall. I got mine from a street fair and I was fortunate to have ended up with a healthy lil' girl. Just know that your other one will be happy and less trouble for you.

Also, you should take your other one to the vet if they were kept together. It needs to be treated for parasites as that if one had them, the other will too. Otherwise, it will get sick in the next few days probably too. I'm sorry to trouble you, but you need to do this asap.
