How do you guys control your water temperature in the summer? It was only 75 in my apartment today but my water temperature was 82. I only have a 10 gallon right now and a very small hatchling.

Well, to start I take out my heaters. Then I switch up from a glass lid to an egg crate lid. If it gets too warm, I take some frozen milk jugs to cool the water. For a smaller tank, you can use frozen water bottles.

Definitely start by removing or turning off your heater. Water heaters are designed to bring the temperatures up, whether it's 60 in your room or 80. So that would explain why the water was warmer than room temp.

Otherwise, it's hard to keep the water cooler. I am fortunate that my turtle is living in the basement, so we should have less issues, but last summer, she routinely had 86 degree water. I just don't have the time or patience to keep water bottles frozen to be put in. I did, on some of the hotter days, just throw ice cubes in. My turtle enjoyed chasing them around, and being chased by them. Just don't overwhelm the water, I never threw in enough to really make a difference in temps, but it made cold pockets.

My 10 gallon tank that I have with my goldfish gets a little warm as the room temp goes up in the house.

I was told and I read that putting a couple of ice cubes in the tank to lower the temp is a good temp fix.
