General Care Discussion :: Please help with any suggestions about our new baby Crush!

As most of you that look in the gallery know we have a new baby name Crush! Alot of people have left us great comments on how beautiful he is and we agree and want to say thanks! Now for my problem. In the last couple of days, i've been off work and have been watching crush closely. Sadly i'm pretty sure he has RI! The vet here is closed but in the AM i am calling to make an appointment. the vet is about an hour away and I will get him in asap so please don't think i'm not going to or that i'm going to neglect this issue by not taking him. My question is what can I do for him now. I've read about hibiclens baths and saltwater baths even dry docking. What do those of you who have expirience with this suggest? The signs I'm seeing are floating not sinking when I put him in the water, swimming kind of weird (at first i thought this was because the filter was too strong for him but the more I watch i don't think so) and he has bubbles that come out of his nose when he takes his head underwater. Does this sound like RI to you guys! We love little crush already and I wish that the vet was open today. I'm freaking cause I'm not sure how long he's had this. We just got him last week and i work lots of hours so I've only had time to spend time observing him this weekend. Please help me I don't want my poor little one to die! He is eating normal and swimming and playing alot. He basks normal not too much or too little. I just don't know but I do know he's going to the vet just in case. Thanks for any advise and sorry for such a long post. Just a worried new momma. Squirt never had these issues and has always been healthy.

sq-mom - A lot of hatchling die from RI. The best news is that he/she is eating. If it is RI that is the next thing would be not eating. While he is sick I would feed him a small amount twice a day. Keep the water at 80 degrees and don't let him get chilled. Hot, cold, hot, cold is not good for a hatchling. The basking area should be at 90 to 91 degrees with uvb lighting. I would also suggest that you keep the water very clean until this runs it course. Get it to the vet as soon as possible. Good Luck!

squirtmommy1: Thats great that you are taking him to the vet and thats probably the only thing that will save him. Your best bet is again, to get him in asap!
Until then though, I would bump up both water and basking temps like mikee suggested and try and get the little guy to keep eating (smelly foods such as canned tuna work best for this purpose). Hopefully you can get him to the vet soon. Good Luck and keep us all posted!

babys sometimes have air in them untail they get it out they dont sink they float ther bloated

Crush has an appointment this morning at 10 am! I will keep everyone updated.

So the vet says that Crush is in perfect health. No mucus in his airway no RI whatsoever that he can find. He said to watch him closely and if he stops eating or starts to act lethargic to call him asap but for now he thinks the reason Crush swims a little sideways is because the he's so small and the filter is pulling him. He says the reason he floats is because he choses to and showed me. He dropped him in and he sank right to the bottom. Thank goodness! )

I'm glad to hear it! But just as a precaution are you working with a submersible filter or like a regular fish aquaclear or fluval filter bcuz if so then you should be able to lower the flow of the water pushing back out and if you still feel unsure plz do boost up the water and basking temp, better safe than sorry! Eugene had an RI and was able to safely pull through!
